Repairing Door Frame Hinge
Unscrew the loose screws and remove the hinge from on top of the stripped holes.
Repairing door frame hinge. Try tightening the hinges which can loosen up over time causing the door to sag. If you have a centering hinge drill use the hinge as a template and the finish repair will be better than new and last for years. Use a chisel and hammer or putty knife to pry the door stop and molding away from the frame. The hinge mortise is a shallow recess the hinge fits into on the side of the door.
Test the hinge on the latch side a door is cut at a slight bevel to make it easier to close. Allow the glue to dry. Reinstall the hinge and screws in the holes. Through use the screws securing the hinge become loose.
Unlike wooden doors steel doors require a different approach to repair hinge screws that are pulled out of the door. To repair a loose door hinge. Break the tee off even with the bottom of the mortise. Start at the bottom of the frame and work your way up.
6 screw the hinges back onto the door using screws. If one is loose remove two or more screws and try driving in longer screws. Remove the loose screws. These tools slip over the hinges when the door is closed.
Many problems with frames and doors can be fixed by adjusting the hardware. Tap the tee into the hinge screw hole with a hammer. Clean the dried glue out of the hinge mortise using a chisel. Remove the screws that hold the loose hinge leaf to the door jamb.
Another hint is to use a long screw in one of the holes in the top most hinge long enough to penetrate the stud. Score the tee with a utility knife flush with the mortise. Open the door wide and insert a wedge under the bottom outside corner to level it. If the hinge and jamb are painted cut the paint around the leaf with a utility knife swing the leaf away from the jamb.
The wrong way is a temporary fix not cool. Squeeze a drop of carpenter s glue into each loose hole then push about 3 wooden matches or toothpicks into the hole or enough to fill it and snap the excess wood off. Take care not to damage the stop as you remove it from the frame. After time the weight of the door will pull on the hinge and cause the door not to hang straight.
Fix it the right way not the wrong way. How you fix the steel door hinge depends on the amount of damage to the screw threads. Screw the hinge back into place after the glue is dry. If a door binds open it grasp the knob and lift up to see if a hinge is loose.
Coat a wooden golf tee with glue.
