If you toss the guttering clear of the house you might overbalance and fall off the ladder so aim to lower larger sections gently to the ground with a rope. Rusted cast iron gutter you can smooth off patches of rust with an emery cloth but take care not to rub so hard that you make a hole. Try not to drop cast iron guttering to the ground.
Glue the pieces of cast iron together using repair care resins. It shatters easily and if it lands on a hard surface dangerous fragments can fly off. The material from which your gutters are made will determine the best methods for repair as well as influencing the cost of such repairs. Small leaks and loose pipes can usually be repaired fairly easily but major restoration work is a specialist job because of the need for working at height and manoeuvring awkward lengths of heavy guttering.
